Structure of the RCSI Aptitude Test
The test consists of separate theory and practical sessions.
RCSI Theory Test (MCQ)
This part consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). It assesses the theoretical knowledge of the candidates. Candidates must successfully complete this part before proceeding to the practical test.
This theory test is a three-hour exam. You’ll be required to answer 150 questions, with a minimum passing score of 50%. The test covers a wide range of nursing topics, including patient assessment, communication, medication administration, wound care, emergency management, and mental health nursing.
RCSI Practical Test (OSCE)
This part involves Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). It evaluates the practical skills of the candidates through various clinical scenarios. Candidates must pass this part to obtain registration with the NMBI.
The OSCE assesses your practical skills and clinical judgement through a series of 14 standardised patient scenarios.
